DRESDEN:
Rebuilt from rubble, Oxford Mail 18th February 2009
www.oxfordmail.co.uk/
The Dresden city centre has changed its appearance over the course
of 2006.
The diamond of the Frauenkirche is to be placed back in its original
setting: Dresden's historical heart is currently being reborn around
the Neumarkt, partly with old facades, partly with discreetly modern
frontage. The latest status of the building work is documented by
a live webcam mounted on the Kulturpalast cultural centre. In September
2006, the Quartier QF opened its doors. Three floors of restaurants,
fashion boutiques, shops and a Five-Star Boutique Hotel are to tempt
visitors with typically Saxon and Italian products. Immediately
alongside the reconstructed Coselpalais, and opposite the apse of
the Frauenkirche, building work is progressing on the Quartier II,
which constitutes for the most part reconstructions of magnificent
Baroque townhouses, insofar as historical drawings and documentation
were able to serve as source material. Restaurants offering Saxon
and international cuisine are here to accompany small shops offering
high-quality tourist products and souvenirs. The opening is planned
for the beginning of 2007. (Text from "Dresden 2007 / 2008

Construction
Stone Letters
The
GHND has begun the campaign "Construction Stone Letters for Rampische
Strasse 29". This first campaign is intended to cover a portion
of the rebuilding costs of the example reconstruction of the baroque
bourgeois house at Rampische Strasse 29.
Construction Stone Letters are being offered beginning May 5, 2004
from 10 euros up to 7,500 euros apiece and can be obtained in the
Society's information pavilion in the Galeriestrasse or through
the internet under www.rampische29.de
The following individual building elements are being offered:
10 euros - for one of the 4,150 roof tiles
100 euros - for ½ square meter of a gable end
250 euros - for 1 square meter of façade wall
500 euros - for one of the 115 steps in the staircase
2,500 euros - for one of the 27 windows with sandstone framing in
the façade of walls facing Salzgasse and in the inner courtyard
7,500 euros for one of the 6 windows with sandstone framing facing
the Rampische Strasse
Donors will be recorded in a book dedicated especially for this
purpose. At the end of the reconstruction, it will be handed over
to the City Archives. For sums over 500 euros, donors will, in addition,
be memorialized on a donors' plaque affixed to the house. Donations
are tax deductible under German tax laws. Givers subject to the
laws of other countries should consult their own tax advisers regarding
deductibility.
